Resting

It's a Saturday morning and I'm sitting on my computer, writing this particular Thoughtful Thursday. After this, I'm taking the rest of the day off. Well, I'm going to try and take the rest of the day off. What does that look like? I'm going to do chores, go grocery shopping, hopefully watch some bad SciFi, play with puppies, do laundry, and maybe take a nap like I've been talking about for the last 2 weeks. It's been a very busy spring and the summer seminar season in full swing and fall season already booked, plus a litter of puppies being planned and a few other large projects. It looks to be very busy.
Rest time is very important. For us. For our dogs.

One of the things I have come to realize is that some of my biggest training and business breakthroughs comes when I am not training or overly busy. It comes in that twilight time, when I may be half asleep, or I'm in the shower, or doing chores, or even coloring in my favorite coloring book. Where my brain is allowed to just wonder, be creative, pick up a problem and examine it from several different angles without pressure.
This is also typically when I have some of my 'oh duh' moments as well. Or have the space to think about what I do or do not want to do business wise.
When your passion becomes your full time job, you have to guard against burn out, otherwise you can loose the joy of your passion. I see this a lot in the volunteer world of SAR, where people become so engrossed in training their dogs and the politics of the team they loose the joy of why they started in the first place. This happens in competition as well.
Make sure you take the time to rest.
Then, go train.
