Clear communication is one ingredient to being a great trainer. So in this vocabulary post, we are going to talk about the definitions of scent and odor. Sometimes we use things interchangeably, and we need to be clear when talking about certifications and standards.

We do serious work with our dogs and need to have robust and respectful conversations about training, deployments, and capabilities. When the conversation stakes are high, having a common vocabulary reduces confusion.

Each standard has a list of definitions in the front to aid in ease of use. So whether it is

the Explosives Detection Dog Standard (092), Canine Detection of Humans: Aged Trails (026), Location Checks (024), Patrol (027), or the Terms and Definitions (025), you can find what you are most interested in.
